THE INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEAM PROCESS

The Instructional Support Teacher facilitates the Instructional Support Process.  The Team may include the parents, principal, guidance counselor, classroom teacher(s), appropriate support staff and the Instructional Support Teacher.

IST is a process used to find and implement researched based interventions/strategies for our "At-Risk" population as defined by No Child Left Behind.  This population includes students performing at the Basic or Below Basic level of Proficiency on either the PSSA, AIMSweb, or 4Sight.

Students may also be referred to the IST process if their behaviors are impeding their academic performance.

The IST process includes:
  • Reviewing of child's educational history and health background
  • Assessing the child's present level of performance using classroom curriculum based assessments, observations and diagnostic tools
  • Implementing, evaluating through progress monitoring and data collection, revising, and modifying or changing the intervention as deemed appropriate by the RESPONSE TO INSTRUCTION AND  INTERVENTION or success of the research based intervention.
The ultimate goal of IST is to provide a leveled or tiered support system that will address the need(s) of a student through regular education and maintain a child in regular education whenever possible or plausible.

For more information on Response to  Instruction and Intervention go to the District's Webpage at www.cdschools.org and click on Programs.  On left hand menu click on Title I Reading then click on Tier Intervention System.
