• Recorder Karate

Recorder Karate is a fun way for students to learn how to play the recorder at their own pace.  When students feel comfortable with the song that they are learning, they are able to test for me by playing the recorder.  I grade them based on pitch (are they covering the hole completely on the recorder to get the correct note), rhythm (are they playing the rhythms in the song correctly), and fingering (are they using the correct fingering for the notes that they have learned).  Students automatically get a point for playing for me.  It takes courage to be able to perform in front of someone (they are not required to play in front of the class, it is just for me).
