    Counseling Mission Statement

    The mission of the Lawnton Elementary Counseling Program is to empower all students through classroom education, intervention, and endless moral and emotional support in order to help all students in their journey of becoming high-achieving learners academically, socially, and emotionally, while also providing a safe, inclusive, culturally sensitive, and equitable learning environment. The comprehensive school counseling program collaborates with stakeholders, and utilizes evidence-based and data-driven programming to meet and attend to the needs of all Lawnton Learners. Through our school counseling program, students will be able to identify and build on their strengths, obtain tools and skills to advocate for themselves, and learn to thrive throughout each level of their educational journey.

    Each student will have the tools, knowledge, skills, and personal empowerment to reach their fullest potential and achieve their dreams in order to become emotionally intelligent and well-rounded leaders. 


    Our comprehensive school counseling program consists of:

    • Monthly Classroom Lessons focused on Social Emotional Learning Topics
      • Examples of Lessons/Topics include:
        • Emotional Regulation using the Zones of Regulation Curriculum (Kuypers, 2011) and The Little Spot Books (Alber, 2019)
        • Executive Functioning Skills
          • Organization, Study Skills, Maintaining Focus/Attention
        • Stress, Anger, and Anxiety Management
        • Coping Skills and Self-Regulation/Calming Skills
        • Mindfulness
        • Conflict Resolution
        • Growth Mindset/Positive Thinking
        • Social Skills
        • Empathy
    • College and Career Exploration
      • Done through the use of SmartFutures technology, as well as tailored lessons around exploring options for higher education, trades, and other careers
      • Follow the PA State Standards for Career Education
    • Small Group Counseling
      • 6-8 weeks worth of lessons with a group of 4-8 students focused on topics such as grief and loss, family dynamics, social skills, executive functioning, positive relationship building, and emotional regulation
    • Short-term Individual Counseling
      • Short term, individualized lessons and check-ins designed to help students with a myriad of challenges from attention, to emotional regulation, to specific family and personal issues/concerns
    • Monthly Check-Ins
      • General monthly check-ins with students to address their all-around needs to ensure they are meeting their social, emotional, and academic goals


    As the school counselor, I always want parents, students, and staff to feel comfortable talking with me about any need they have. My comprehensive program is based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, which helps me assess, deliver, define, and manage my program to ensure all students, their families, and our staff are fully supported.
