This course is designed for students in grade 9. The focus is on basic reading skills such as word recognition, word attack and decoding skills, and vocabulary and comprehension improvement. There is an added look at reading skills needed to read outside of school. The course is based on the Reading Apprenticeship framework and is taught using teacher created materials, textbooks, and novels.Students are scheduled for this course based on teacher recommendations, prior reading courses, previous reading test scores and stardard achievement test results.
