College and Career Center
Located in the school Counseling Office
Students can stop by before school to make an appointment and get a pass. Appointments can only be made during a study hall or lunch, or before or after school. You can also make an appointment by emailing Mrs. Reuwer at kreuwer@cdschools.org to visit the center. We will not be allowing students to take study halls in the College & Career Center.**
**FAFSA information has been pushed back again**
FAFSA has once again pushed back when they will be releasing information to schools. The information will not be coming out until the first half of March, meaning that financial aid packages will not be available until April. This is to fix a mistake that could have hurt lower-income families. While this is a good thing, it will hold up offers from schools and put many in a crunch to decide where to attend by several May deadlines.
Upcoming Events
ASVAB Testing
-
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is being offered at Central Dauphin High School on Tuesday, March 12th 2024. The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military and in the workplace. If you need an avenue to help make career decisions, consider taking the ASVAB test. This free career exploration program is open to 10th through 12th graders and is a great opportunity for you to learn more about yourself and to explore occupations in line with your interests and skills. If you are interested in taking the ASVAB, sign up in the school counseling office by Friday, March 8th.
U.S. Service Academy Night
- You and your family are invited to come to the Cedar Cliff High School Library on Wednesday, April 24th from 5:30pm-7:30pm for a U.S. Service Academy Night.
- Congressman Scott Perry will offer an overview of the U.S. Service Academies, and a briefing on Academy Application, Congressional Nomination, and Academy Appointment processes. To confirm attendance or for more information, please email Jodi Marsico at Jodi.Marsico@mail.house.gov
Scholarship Assist Day
On Thursday, February 15th the College and Career Center hosted a Scholarship Assist Day. This was run by representatives from The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC). The goal was to help students fill out the universal application form to apply for several dozen local scholarships. The application can be a little confusing, so representatives were on hand to walk students through the process. The turnout was great, with 45 students signing up. Several common questions were answered, including how to handle attaching the FAFSA information if it has not officially been released yet. If you missed this and still would like help, please reach out to me.
- Trade School Career Day
The College and Career Center’s first ever Trade School Career Day was a huge success! Representatives from Triangle Tech, UTI, Thaddeus Stevens, YTI, HACC, Empire Beauty School, and the PA College of Technology were here to answer student questions. They set up in our center and provided information on what they have to offer, what trades may be suited to each student, as well as information on internships and apprenticeships. For more information on trade schools, please visit College and Career.
