The secondary level library program is under the direction of a librarian in each school. Library materials are selected for the use of pupils in connection with their school work. Collections include books and magazines, as well as newspapers, pamphlets, occupational files and pictures. Because the library rooms are used for reference work and for pleasure reading, silence is required of every pupil. Pupils are admitted to the libraries during class periods by: (1) Presenting an official printed library permit from the subject teacher and signed by the study hall teacher, or (2) A subject teacher may bring an entire class group. Books may be borrowed or returned any time the libraries are open.
Elementary libraries include both fiction and nonfiction books. Each class meets with one of the librarians for instruction in library activities and procedures. In addition, each class is given time each week for book selection.
