• The Second Grade Curriculum
     
    In Second Grade, our curriculum is made up of several wonderful pieces!
     
     
    Language Arts
    Our Language Arts Program uses the Houghton Mifflin Journeys reading series.
    The pieces of our Language Arts curriculum are principles of:
    Reading and Comprehension
    Phonology
    Spelling
    Grammar
    Writing
     
     
    Go Math
    Our Math program utilizes the Go Math Program.  This curriculum dedicates one full unit to each of the concepts it covers.  
    The concepts that are covered in Second Grade are:
    Addition and Subtraction
    Multiplication and Division
    Geometry
    Measurement
    Data Analysis
     
     
    Social StudiesSocial Studies
    Our Social Studies program utilizes the Harcourt series.  In it we learn about communities and
    the ways in which we all live and work together.  We also learn about the world around us.
    The concepts we cover in Social Studies are:
    Communities
    Elements of Commerce and Trade (through the Junior Achievement Program)
    Geography and Landforms
     
     
    Sciencescience
    Our Science curriculum utilizes components of the Foss Science program.  This science is fully hands on
    and encourages students to explore to find their own answers.  It involves many
    experiments during which children get a chance to put the scientific method to use.
    The topics we discuss in Second Grade are:
    Weather and Water
    Movement and Energy
    Living Things/Life Cycles
