My name is Mrs. Melissa LaCagnina and this is my 18th year teaching 2nd grade (19th year of teaching)! I’m very excited to begin the school year. I was born and raised on Long Island in New York and I went to college in upstate New York at SUNY Cortland. When I graduated from college, I worked as a TA for 2 years. My husband, Joe, got a job in Carlisle, so I moved to Harrisburg once we got married. I was a day to day substitute for Central Dauphin for 1 year, and then I accepted a long-term sub position for Mrs. Ross in 1st grade at Mountain View, from that I was able to get my job in second grade at Mountain View.I’m the youngest of 3 girls in my family. My 2 older sisters and their husbands are all teachers! My entire family still lives in New York, so we go to visit them quite often. I have 2 daughters of my own who are growing up so quickly. We have a Weimaraner (dog) named Loki. I'm sure you will hear a lot of stories about him this year! He sure is cute and keeps us very busy!
My favorite color is blue, I love palm trees and dogs, and I love to travel! My favorite baseball teams are the New York Mets and I will also cheer for the New York Yankees.
Throughout the school year, I will be sure to help each and every student succeed, by meeting their individual needs. As a teacher, I believe that each student learns on different levels and I will be sure to adjust my instruction based on their needs. I love working with children and it’s so rewarding to see their success!
If there is any need to contact me, please call Mountain View at 717-657-8585, send a note with your child, or write me an email mlacagnina@cdschools.org.
