South Side Elementary School PTA has won another National PTA grant. This time it is for Take Your Family to School Week. Take Your Family to School Week is a National PTA event held every year from February 7-13. PTAs are asked to develop and submit ideas for programs that involve parents and families getting involved in students education and finding ways to attend school events during the week. The $1,897 grant is sponsored by PTA's Proud National Sponsor, AXA Foundation and awarded to PTAs throughout the country. South Side will be holding a "Family Feud Education Night" and two educational assemblies for students on February 9th. At these events, they will be using a group that sponsors "The Brain Show"; a traveling game show in which students are asked educational questions and awarded points. The students are selected from the audience and compete against each other for prizes. The group that runs the show creates questions to fit the schools curriculum. The questions cover history, math, science, spelling, current events, english and social studies. They create questions for each grade level. That evening, during Family Night, students and their families will compete against other students and their families. The PTA will also send home an Educational Scavenger Hunt in which students and their families will have to work together and search the internet to answer educational questions on a variety of topics. Each family will receive a certificate of participation and all of the families that participate will have their names entered into a drawing to win a gift certificate to a local book store to purchase books to be shared by all. AXA will be presenting South Side PTA with their check during a presentation ceremony that will be held during the 2:00 assembly on February 9th at South Side Elementary.
Once again, congratulations South Side PTA on a job well done!
