4.1 Workers Comp Claims: A general discussion was held surrounding the 10 workers comp claims that were filed during the month of March. The first claim was regarding a whole-body injury in which the employee was struck and knocked to the ground by a student. The employee was able to return to work. No further action was required. The second claim was regarding a lower extremity strain. This injury was student related. The employee was able to return to work and no further action was required. The third claim was regarding a lower extremity strain due to a fall/slip. The employee is currently out of work due to restrictions and the inability to perform work duties. A discussion was held regarding using appropriate equipment when stretching to reach high up objects. No further action was required. The fourth claim was regarding a strain due to a fall/slip due to a chair that rolled out from under the employee while trying to sit. The employee returned to work with minimal restrictions. A discussion was held regarding the floors in the building, and if carpet squares or mats are under the chairs to prevent sudden slipping of the chairs. The fifth claim was regarding a contusion in which the employee was struck by a student. The employee was able to return to work and no further action was required. The sixth claim was regarding a stress induced rash in which the employee broke out in hives. The claim was student related. The employee was able to return to work, and no further action was required. The seventh claim was regarding a contusion in which the employee was struck by a student. The employee was able to return to work and no further action was required. The eighth claim was regarding a contusion in which the employee was struck by a door hinge. The employee was able to return to work and no further action was required. The ninth claim was regarding a strain or tear from lifting. The employee was able to return to work and no further action was required. The tenth claim was regarding a contusion due to being struck by a student. The employee was able to return to work and no further action was required.
A Discussion held regarding the workers compensation forms that the district uses. The committee discussed the possibility of adding a training for administrators on how to complete the forms, and the importance of including photos related to the claim. A plan was discussed to work with Kyle Smaltz to send out guidelines and examples of complete forms to administrators.
Based on the discussion surrounding the workers compensation claims. Two action items were discussed. The first action item involved a discussion regarding adding additional staff trainings for de-escalation with students. It was suggested that it would be beneficial to hold these additional trainings in August and a refresher in the February to March range. The second action item was related to the Buildings and Grounds department providing follow up information on the work order process when orders are placed due to building concerns, and how/when jobs are deemed high priority.
4.2 Monthly Safety Topic: A discussion was held regarding the March safety topic. The March safety topic was ladder safety month. The committee discussed the importance of using a ladder appropriately as the end of the school year approaches and staff are needing to adjust their rooms. It was discussed that staff should not be standing on tables, chairs, etc. to tear down items that are not within reach.

The first claim was regarding a strain or tear to the upper extremity. This claim was student related; the employee was able to return to work and no further action was discussed. The second claim was regarding a contusion to the head caused by being struck by an object. The employee was able to return to work, no further action was discussed. The third claim was regarding contusion to the head. This claim was student related; the employee was able to return to work and no further action was discussed. The fourth claim was regarding a contusion to the upper extremity. This claim was student related; the employee was able to return to work and not further action was discussed. The fifth claim was regarding a laceration/scratch to the lower extremity. This claim was student related; the employee was able to return to work and no further action was discussed. The sixth claim was regarding a fall/slip. This claim was related to the employee falling on liquid that was left on the floor by a student. A discussion was held regarding the process of reporting potential slip/fall hazards to the custodians for cleanup. The employee was able to return to work. No further action was discussed.
4.2 Monthly Safety Topic: A discussion was held regarding the hearth health safety topic and specifically the AED machine locations within the buildings, and who is responsible for the upkeep of the AED machines. It was determined that the school nurses are responsible for the upkeep of the AED machines in the building to ensure all batteries replaced in a timely manner. A discussion was held to have information go out to staff at the beginning of the year to bring awareness as to where the AED machines are in the building for emergency preparedness purposes.

The meeting was called to order at 3:12 pm by Tamara Stoner.

A discussion was held regarding follow up on CPR training for staff. During the summer, special education runs the CPR program. It was concluded that HR would follow up with special education to see how the program could be expanded to other employees.
4.1 Workers Comp Claims: A general discussion was held surrounding the 3 workers comp claims that were filed during the month of January. The first claim was regarding being struck/injured by a flying object. This claim was student related; the employee was able to return to work and no further action was discussed. The second claim was regarding a fall/slip injury where an employee fell on a snowy crosswalk. A discussion was held regarding the possibility of adding textured (grit) paint on crosswalks to lessen the likelihood of slips in inclement weather. The employee was able to return to work. The third claim was regarding a fall/slip this claim was student behavior related. No further action was discussed, employee was able to return to work.
4.2 Monthly Safety Topic: A discussion was held regarding the winter weather safety topic and specifically the process for reporting additional ice freezes in parking lots as a concern was brought up that there were ice patches in the administration parking lot. The parking lots are taken care of by a 3rd party and any small patches should be reported to buildings and grounds. A question was asked on if the district has walk off mats and all buildings have them. No action items needed.

Discussion on North Side safety inspection. Sherry gave an update that they are in the process of pouring new steps. The projector was also removed from the music room. No further action needed.

4.1. Discussion was held regarding new member Beth DeHart. Unanimously approved.
4.2 A discussion was held regarding an open workers comp claim involving a staff member who was struck in the face with a ball during a training. No further action needed.
4.3 A discussion was held regarding general back to school safety including crosswalks, buses, signs at entry and exits and bags. Door propping continues to be a concern with the school year starting, reminders are sent out by safety and security. No further action needed.
