School Emergency Guide - Parent Reunification

CDSD SCHOOL EMERGENCY GUIDE FOR PARENTS

Student/Parent Reunification is the means for safe and orderly reunion of students and families in the event of an emergency.

Tragedy can hit one of our schools at any time. Whether the tragedy is a fire, hazardous material spill, a bomb threat, or an active shooter, the Central Dauphin School District (CDSD) is committed to keeping our students and staff safe. In the event of such an incident, we are preparing our schools to respond. This information has been prepared to provide you with important instructions should there be an emergency at your child’s school.

PARENT/GUARDIAN ACTION STEPS

  • At the start of school, verify that your school has your child’s emergency information including contact names and
  • correct telephone numbers.
  • Notify the school of any changes in information.

SCHOOL EMERGENCY RESPONSE

  • Lockdown– Occurs if there is a crisis in the school and movement of students will put them in jeopardy. No entry or exit of the school is permitted. PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR TEXT YOUR CHILD.
  • Shelter-in-place– Occurs when there is not time to evacuate or when it would be dangerous to leave the building.  Students will stay in school until it is safe for them to leave.
  • Evacuation–Students and staff must leave the school building for their own safety. Students will be moved to an off -site location (see your school’s location).

IN THE EVENT OF AN EVACUATION TO AN OFF-SITE LOCATION:

  • Please DO NOT come to the school. Doing so will impede emergency vehicles and first responders.
  • Please DO NOT call the school.
  • You will be notified via the district emergency notification system through phone and email with instructions on where to pick up your child and what to do.
  • Students will remain at the off site location under supervision of CDSD personnel until picked up by a parent, guardian or emergency contact.
  • Visit the Central Dauphin School District website for instructions at www.cdschools.org.

What to bring with you to the reunification site:

  • Government issued photo Identification card (driver’s license, passport).
  • Students will ONLY be released to parents, guardians or designated emergency contact who have acceptable ID.

REUNIFICATION SITES FOR CD SCHOOLS WILL BE SENT OUT THROUGH NORMAL COMMUNICATIONS AT THE TIME OF INCIDENTS.
