Volunteering Badging Procedure
Volunteer Badging Procedure Pa. Act 153- 2014 requires that all volunteers that have direct contact with children (act in lieu of a parent or provide care, supervision, guidance or control of children or have routine interaction with children) are required to obtain the following clearances every 60 months.
- Pa State Police (PSP) report of criminal history.
- Department of Human Services (DHS) child abuse clearance history.
- A federal criminal history (FBI).
- A FBI check is not required if you are not being paid AND
- The volunteer has been a Pennsylvania resident for the past 10 years.
A person convicted of a felony offense under Act 64-1972 (relating to the controlled substance, drug device and cosmetic act) committed within the past five years. • Have been named as a perpetrator of a founded report of child abuse within the past five (5) years or have been convicted of any of the crimes listed above or of offenses similar in nature to those crimes under the laws or former laws of the United States or one of its territories or possessions, another state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a foreign nation, or under a former law of this Commonwealth.
Central Dauphin School District has determined the following activities that involve parents; family and community act as volunteers and are required to provide clearances. Every attempt has been made to make this list inclusive, if in doubt contact the Director of Safety and Security or Director of Human Resources.
- All field trip chaperones
- Athletic activities
- Summer sports camps
- Unpaid coaching
- Play or musical related activities
- Band Volunteers
- Class volunteer/instructional aid
Once clearances have been obtained, the volunteer will call 717-545-4703 extension 70519 and leave a name and contact number for someone to contact you to arrange an appointment for the original documents to be reviewed by the Central Dauphin School District Police (CDSDP) and instructions on how to obtain a Central Dauphin School District provided Volunteer Badge. The volunteer will keep the original documents.
If a volunteer is arrested for or convicted of an offense that would constitute grounds for denying participation in a program, activity or service, or is named as a perpetrator in a founded or indicated report, the volunteer must provide the administrator (Director of Safety and Security) or the their designee with written notice not later than 72 hours after the arrest, conviction or notification that the person has been listed as a perpetrator in the statewide database. A volunteer who willfully fails to disclose information as required above commits a misdemeanor of the third degree and shall be subject to arrest, termination or denial of volunteer position.
Wearing of Badges
Central Dauphin School District issued ID badges must be worn and at volunteer activities both inside and outside of the school in a visible manner such as:
- On a lapel pocket
- At the waist or on a belt On a lanyard worn around the neck
