In General Music students will work on learning to appreciate the wide, WIDE,

    world of music through many FUN and CHALLENGING activities! We focus on providing a foundation that students can use as they move through the Central Dauphin district's EXCELLENT, INSPIRING, and ESSENTIAL MUSIC PROGRAM!



    Students learn the basics of reading music, rhythmic skills, instrumental technique, improving hand / eye coordination, developing listening skills, performance skills, encouraging healthy vocal development, tonal recognition, instrument identification, style identification, pattern recognition, cultivating an understanding of our culture and its history, cultivating an understanding and appreciation of other cultures, creating music, improvisation, learning how music is connected to other disciplines...THE LIST GOES ON!


    Music has long been a key part of what goes into making an "educated individual."  It has countless SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN medical and intellectual benefits! It enhances every person's quality of life! Music unlocks our potential to think, feel, and live.


    From August to June students are taken through many important musical units. These are:

    February- FAMOUS COMPOSERS & MUSIC HISTORY  beethoven


    March- SONGWRITING & RECORDING  songwriting


    April- MULTICULTURAL MUSIC  multicultural


    May / June- STYLES OF MUSIC jazz




    4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to join Chorus, the school's singing group that performs a concert each winter and spring. The dates for this year's Chorus concerts are:

                 5th Grade Hershey Bears National Anthem performance: November 3rd, 2019
                            *Wear Green / North Side shirts
                            * Arrive at Giant Center Guest Services BY 4pm (5pm game)
                            *The Chorus will sing the National Anthem down on the ice!
                            * IMMEDIATELY AFTER SINGING- Meet me outside Section _____(TBD) to sign out students into
                               your custody for the rest of the evening! (THERE ARE NO CHAPERONES FOR THE EVENING,
                               SO THERE MUST BE A PARENTAL GUARDIAN PRESENT!)
                            *If you didn't order / purchase discounted tickets before the deadline,
                               still feel free to buy tickets directly from GIANT Center and join us!

                                                            FRIENDSHIP CENTER TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
                                   Any and all 4th & 5th grade Chorus members are invited to join our group in performing some traditional songs on: TBD . We will meet at the Friendship Center shortly beforehand, and help lead the community in singing during the festive celebration. This is an optional event for any interested members! 


    winter   Winter Concert:

    5th Grade Band, Orchestra, & Chorus- 6:30pm on Monday, December 16, 2019

    5th Grade Chorus members will be able to audition for a select ensemble that will join the best singers from across the district!

    We will practice to prepare for our Honors Choir Festival taking place on
    Saturday, February 29th 2020 at 3:00pm at Central Dauphin Middle School.

    spring  Spring Concert:

    Beginner's Band, 5th Grade Band, Orchestra, & Chorus: Tuesday, May 19, 2020
    beginning at 6:30pm in the Linglestown Middle School auditorium!


    Students are expected to wear concert attire for performances;

    this generally means avoiding sneakers and jeans IF possible.


    BOYS: Collared shirt, dress pants / khakis, sweater, vest, tie, polo shirt, suit


          GIRLS: Dress, skirt, blouse, sweater, khakis, collared shirt / polo

    All rehearsals take place during the school day, with the exception of 5th grade Honor's Chorus rehearsals (January-February). As participation in Chorus is a privilege, students must maintain appropriate behavior in rehearsal. Students and their parents will sign a contract; those unable to follow the rules limit what we can accomplish, and will be removed from the group.


    We want rehearsal to be POSITIVE and FUN!
