Elementary School Counselor
Mrs. Kelly Kroeck
Dear North Side Students and Families,
My name is Mrs. Kroeck (rhymes with Shrek) and I am the school counselor at North Side Elementary. I have been at North Side Elementary since January 2007. Again this school year, North Side is fortunate to have an additional, part-time school counselor working with us - Mrs. Caitlin Wagner. We are excited about working together this year and making it the best school year yet!
As School Counselors, we are committed to supporting the academic achievement of all students by focusing on the social, emotional and behavioral needs of our children. This goal is accomplished by developing a caring and supportive relationship with students, that allows all students the opportunity to work through personal issues that prevent them from achieving academic success.
We work with students in several different capacities depending on the needs of the child(ren). For instance, we work with some students on a short-term individual basis. Other students come to our offices in small groups and we work through different issues or discuss different topics. We visit many classrooms and hold Classroom Lessons (aka Guidance Lessons) and help teachers run Morning Meetings. If a student would like to see us, they can be referred to our offices by filling out a request slip, talking to their teacher, talking to us in the hallway, or having a parent call in.
When it comes down to it, we are firm supporters of a team approach and we feel that we can have the strongest impact on a student's life when students, parents, teachers, counselors and administrators work together! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you or your child. If you need to reach us, please call the school at 717-657-3201 ext. 2 and ask for Mrs. Kroeck or Mrs. Caitlin Wagner. Please also feel free to email us both at kkroeck@cdschools.org & cwagner@cdschools.org.
Knowing that the past several school years have been a little curvy, it is important to work together and keep a positive mindset. With that, take time to practice mindfulness and take care of yourself.
Check out the links we have provided on the right side of the webpage if you would like more information on different resources and opportunities at North Side. Lastly, if there is anything you need, please reach out via email or give us a call. We will work together to respond as quickly as we can.
Your NSE School Counselors,
Mrs. Kroeck & Mrs. C. Wagner

Positive Mindset [Being willing to grow and see the positive in different situations]
Old Mindset: To New Mindset:
This year is going to be difficult. This year is going to be an adventure, and I will thrive!
Things are so hard for me. I can do it, I just need to keep practicing.
I can't get it. What am I missing?
I quit. I won't give up!
MINDFULLNESS ACTIVITIES [Being present and aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions]:
Blow bubbles and take deep breaths. Think about your feelings in colors - What Zone are you?
Tell an adult your feelings as a fun Weather Report. Take a walk and notice all the textures of objects around you.
Slowly eat a snack and notice how each bite tastes. Listen for your heart beat by being still and quiet.
Take a slow walk, putting one foot in front of the other.
