ffgfgfREADING - Journeys is our reading series.  In this series the children are taught reading strategies to develop their reading skills using a variety of different types of literature.  Each child will learn reading skills by reading books specifically on their level.  This will be done in small reading groups.  Our phonics program, Phonology, will also teach students decoding skills to help with their reading fluency.
fgfSCIENCE - We cover three Science units in first grade.  They are New Plants, Earth, Sun, and Moon, and Solids and Liquids.  Each lesson involves a hands on experiment.  The students have fun exploring with the materials and learning at the same time.
WRITING - The class will write in their journals almost every day.  Handwriting Without Tears is our handwriting program.  Writer's Workshop is used to teach writing and provide opportunities for the students to write daily.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Our Social Studies program covers a variety of topics including our community, our nation's history, and maps.
COMMUNICATION - Please feel free to contact me at anytime.  Communication with you is most important for the success of your child.  You may call me at the school.  If I can not talk when you call I will return your call as soon as possible.  I check my e-mail often so you can also contact me at rkrausse@cdschools.org.
