Welcome to Mrs. Waynick's 2nd Grade Class!About Mrs. Waynick:
Welcome to Northside Elementary! I will be your child’s second grade teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. I know this year is going to be a little different than usual. Please know that I will do my best to communicate and keep you informed as things change. We will do our best and get through it together!
A little bit about me- I enjoy reading, cooking, camping, playing with my daughter Marley and our new 1 year old rescue dogs Dixie and Bayou, and spending time with my friends and family. I transferred to Central Dauphin School District a few years ago from Steelton-Highspire Elementary school where I taught for eight years. I have a lot of exciting events and activities planned for this school year. I think we will have a great year and I am excited about getting to know you and your child over the upcoming weeks!

The number 1 rule in my classroom is respect: respect others, respect property and respect yourself. The class expectations will be established at the start of school and reinforced throughout the year.
Students will be encouraged to make good choices and will be positively reinforced when doing so with my “Star in the Jar” program. When a student does something extra or makes a good choice they will have the opportunity to earn a star ticket to put in the jar. At the end of the week I will pull 3 tickets. Students who’s names are selected will have a chance to choose from a list of rewards and privileges.
In my classroom students strive to be “Wise Owls” which will allow students to visually see how they’re doing throughout the day. All students will start out on the O (Outstanding) branch. Students who need a warning or two will move their owl down to the W (Working on it) branch. If behaviors continue students will need to move their owls to the bottom L (Let’s think about it) branch. Students who have to move to L will be required to owe 5 minutes of their play time and complete a “think sheet.” Students always have the opportunity to move back up to a higher branch by making good choices and turning their day around.
At the end of each day students will color in their daily behavior chart so that you are able to see which letter they were on for that day. Please make sure to initial that you saw their chart and feel free to leave any questions or comments you may have in the space provided. What Your Child Needs To Bring To School Each Day:~ A Book Bag~ A Mask (and perhaps a back up mask just in case)
(Mrs. W. will provide a homework folder and colored subject folders to each student)
~ Extra Items (optional): pencil box, crayons, markers, erasers, glue stick. No toys or electronics (unless it is a special activity day).To A Successful School Year!
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. Do not hesitate to call, write or email me if you have any concerns. It is so important for us to keep the positive line of communication open so that we can ensure the best educational experience for your child. Remember that the best thing you can do as a parent is to read to your child. If you need books please let me know and your child can sign them out from my classroom library.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
