• Hello, my name is Charles Hansell, and I teach math at Central Dauphin East High School.  When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife, traveling, and doing projects around the house (especially woodwork).

Current classes taught:  Pre-Calculus, CP Algebra I

All assignments are available on Canvas, either as a pdf or , and there will typically be homework each night.  The program I use, MyOpenMath, enables students to see if they have the correct answer immediately and make changes until they get a perfect score.  I highly encourage students to retry questions marked incorrect to get the best score possible!  My Canvas site will also house notes for the topic discussed with at least one video example of the type of problems they will see in the homework.  Classwork may also be done online, so it is highly recommended that students bring their school-issued Chromebook to class each day!

    My expectations are as follows:

    • Students should come to class each day with their Chromebook (and charger), note packet, and a pencil.
    • Students should complete the assignments each day to the best of their abilities before the due date.
    • If a student does not complete an assignment on time, they must email me once the assignment is completed (please include the name of the assignment) within 3 days (there will be a 10% penalty for each day late; after 3 days, it will no longer be accepted).
      • Performance Tasks and other major projects will be allowed 5 days late.
      • If answers are already discussed in class, then they must complete the MyOpenMath version of the assignment.
    • If a student is absent on the day of a test/quiz, they must see me to set a time after school to make it up.  I generally want students to make up a test within a week so I can review answers in class.
    • Use of solver apps (such as PhotoMath or MathWay) is prohibited and will result in a 0 for the assignment or assessment if caught.

We offer help after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 - 4:30 in our Library with one of our East High math teachers.  No appointment required!  Transportation will be provided for students that need it.

If you have any questions or need to reach me, please contact me at chansell@cdschools.org.  I am looking forward to a great school year!
