Dear CDSD Community,

The impact of the tragedy that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida has no doubt, affected all of us in school districts and communities throughout the nation. The Central Dauphin School District joins with schools across the country in expressing our sympathy and support to the community of Parkland, Florida.

I assure you that the Central Dauphin School District has student and staff safety as its highest priority.

You can be certain that in light of this tragedy, we will continue to review our safety and security plans and refine our practices should that be necessary.

We will continue to require ALL visitors to show identification upon being admitted to the schools and must report directly to the main office. Today’s events have shocked and saddened us.  During this period of heightened awareness, we need all the adults in our children’s lives, including all school employees and parents to work together and reassure our children that safeguards are in place to provide a safe environment for learning in our schools. Should your child feel upset or worried about coming to school, please remind them that our school counselors will be available to talk to them.  To further assist parents and guardians, click HERE for parent resources on how to discuss such an event with your child.

While we may never understand why these tragedies continue to occur, Central Dauphin remains committed to protecting the safety of all of our students and staff through planning, preparation and vigilance. If you have any specific concerns, as always, please feel free to contact your student’s principal.

    Dr. Carol Johnson, Superintendent
