This course will provide students with knowledge of the United States government that will enable them to participate effectively in civic life in America. The focus is on the principles and beliefs upon which the United States was founded and on the structure, functions, and powers of government at the national, state, and local levels. Popular sovereignty, separation of powers, checks and balances, republicanism, federalism, and individual rights will be examined in addition to the roles of individuals and groups in the American political system.
Multicultural History Course Description Link to canvas site
Multicultural Studies is a one-semester elective history and sociology course that examines the United States as a multicultural nation. The course emphasizes the perspectives/experiences of marginalized groups while allowing students to better understand and appreciate how race, culture, ethnicity, and identity contribute to their experiences. Major topics in the course include immigration, assimilation, power and oppression, struggles for rights, culture and the media.
