Membership into the Swatara Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society not only includes students that excel in Scholarship, but also includes students who measure up to the requirements of Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character.

    • Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals and spirit
    • Exemplifies positive attitudes
    • Inspires positive behaviors in others
    • Demonstrates academic initiative
    • Demonstrates reliability and dependability
    • Volunteers and provides dependable and well-organized assistance, is gladly available, and is willing to sacrifice to offer assistance
    • Works well with others and is wiling to take on responsibility
    • Participates in some activity outside of school (e.g., Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, religious groups, volunteer services for the elderly, poor, or disadvantaged)
    • Shows courtesy by assisting visitors, teachers, and students
    • Understands the importance of civic involvement
    • Has a high regard for freedom and justice; represents the U. S. form of government; and respects the laws at the local, state, and federal level that protect that government
    • Demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through involvement with such activities as scouting, community organizations, and school clubs
    • Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior (e.g., cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, and stability)

    Induction into the Swatara Chapter of NJHS
    Induction into the Swatara Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society takes places each May, about a month and a half after the end of the third quarter.  Students in 7th and 8th grade are eligible to become members for the following school year.
