Hi! Welcome to the website for Mrs. Harshberger's Kindergarten Classroom. Please use this website as a resource to help make your child's Kindergarten year a success.Important Information
Starting Times:
A.M. Kindergarten: 8:45-11:45
Please note that you may not drop your child off before 8:45 am. If you will be picking your child up, please make sure you are here by 11:45.
P.M. Kindergarten: 12:45-3:45
Please note that you may not drop your child off before 12:45 pm. If you are bringing your child to school, you will need to drop them off at the front door to the school. If you need to come into the school for anything more than dropping your child off, please park in the parking lot so the fire lane is not blocked and the buses will have room to pull in.
Transportation:
If you plan to pick up your child that normally rides the bus, you must send in a written note or contact the office. We cannot rely on your child to tell us this information. If no written note or phone call is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
Notes:
When writing notes, please make sure you tell your child that you are sending a note in their folder. Often times, students do not realize important notes are in their folders and then I do not get the note. Please write separate notes for different requests. For example, absence notes get sent straight to the office and others stay with the teacher. By writing separate notes, you help us ensure that the information gets to the correct person.
Take Home Folders:
Folders should be looked at every night. Please look through all the papers to see what can be kept at home and what needs to be signed, completed and returned. This is a wonderful time to discuss with your child what he/she did at school! If you are sending a note or returning papers to school, please make sure your child knows the notes or papers are in his/her folder and that he/she should give those things to me.
Absences and Coming in Late:
If your child is going to be absent, you may call the school and/or e-mail me to let me know. Even if you call or e-mail about an absence, a note including the dates of absence and reason for absence will be required when your child returns to school. If your child is sick with a fever, please keep him/her home until he/she is fever free, without medication, for 24 hours. By doing this, you are helping us lessen the spreading of germs and viruses.
If you know you are going on a vacation, please send a note in to school or call the school secretary so we can make sure you receive the educational trip form. Education trip forms can also be found on the district website if you click on “forms” on the right side of the screen. Educational trip forms must be filled out and approved before your trip.
Preparation/Attendance:
Before your child comes to school, please make sure he/she has had a good breakfast or lunch and plenty of sleep. Remember, a successful school experience is the responsibility of the child, the parent, and the school. Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is important. It also helps build the routine for the rest of your child’s years in school.
Labels and Envelopes:
Please label stuff that comes to school: book orders and such should be in an envelope labeled with your child’s name and its contentsJ Please also be sure to label your child’s coat and book bag!
Book Bags:
Book bags should be big enough to fit folders, library books and regular sized papers (8 ½ x 11 inches) and book bags come to school every day. Please be sure to label your child’s book bag with his/her name as there are usually duplicates of book bags! Please be sure to check and empty your child’s book bag daily.
Students should not bring toys to school. Also, please do not send supplies such as pencils, crayons, markers, etc to school as we have all they will need in the classroom.
Clothing/Sneakers:
Students should wear clothing to school that they are able to fasten and unfasten so that they can be independent when using the bathroom. Also, please be sure to send along appropriate outerwear. It might be a good idea for your child to keep a sweater or sweatshirt in his/her book bag because classroom temperatures can vary.
*** Sneakers are really the best shoes for kindergarten activities. ***
Flip-flops are against dress code while sandals and crocs are dangerous on the playground and aren't allowed for climbing on equipment. Students will not be permitted to play on playground equipment if they are not wearing appropriate shoes (ex. sneakers, shoes that cover the entire foot, sandals that have a back strap).
Recess:
Recess is a scheduled part of kindergarten. Please keep this in mind and send your child with appropriate clothes for the weather. If your child wears flip flops to school, they will not be allowed to play at recess- not even on the swings.
Snacks:
Snacks are not part of the kindergarten day so remember to eat a hearty, healthy meal before school!
Classroom Rules and Expectations:
We have 4 rules in our kindergarten classroom that encompass all situations J
They are:
