Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful

Dear Educators:

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful believes that engaging youth in protecting the environment not only creates a direct impact on changing youth behaviors and attitudes, but possibly influences their parents, relatives and families. As we all embark on another school year, we want to remind you of our programs that encourage young people to take an active role in protecting and improving our environment through recycling, litter awareness, and community stewardship.

Litter Free School Zone: The Litter Free School Zone program is designed to encourage students in grades K - 12 to keep their school grounds litter-free and to raise public awareness regarding litter via a Litter Free School Zone sign to be displayed outside the school. For requirements and additional program information visit the link provided or contact Stephanie Larson at slarson@keeppabeautiful.org or 724-836-4121 x104.

Tools for Schools: Online tools and resources intended to engage educators and students in litter prevention, cleanup and recycling related activities.

International Coastal Cleanup: Join the world’s largest volunteer effort to improve the health of the world’s oceans and local waterways. The International Coastal Cleanup runs from September 1 through October 31. For more information visit the link provided or contact Michelle Dunn at mdunn@keeppabeautiful.org or 877-772-3673 x113.

Recycle-Bowl: Recycle-Bowl is a program designed to revitalize student participation in recycling through a national K-12 recycling competition. The objectives of the competition include: new recycling programs established within schools, the increase of recycling rates in schools that currently recycle and the provision of teacher/student educational opportunities about recycling and waste reduction. Recycle-Bowl competition begins Monday, October 15 and runs through America Recycles Day, Thursday, November 15, 2018. The deadline to register is October 12.

America Recycles Day: America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States. One day to inform and educate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together.

Keep America Beautiful – Youth Initiatives: A Starter Guide: This comprehensive tool engages, educates and inspires youth to be the next generation of environmental and community stewards. For grades k through 12. For more information contact Katie Joblon kjoblon@kab.org.
