Speech Language Department Mission Statement
Our goal as Central Dauphin Speech-Language Pathologists is to provide:
- Assessment and therapeutic treatment for a variety of communication disorders
- Advocate for students and support teachers to maximize academic success
- Comply with federal and state regulations and guidelines
- Utilize the most advanced techniques, delivery models and tools available to meet the diverse needs of our student population
- Meet and exceed district expectations by fostering a culture of excellence
Speech/Language Therapy in school focuses on the following areas as it impacts academic performance:

Increasing expressive and receptive language skills

Increasing vocabulary skills

Improving articulation skills

Improving fluency/stuttering

Improving and increasing pragmatic (social) language skills

Improving grammar and syntax
If you have questions regarding your child's speech and language development:

Please contact the speech language pathologist in your child's building or your child's classroom teacher

A referral form will be completed, followed by a speech/language screening

Parents/guardians will be contacted to discuss the results
If your child is not yet in school but you have concerns about their speech and language development:
- talk to your child's pediatrician
- if your child is preschool age, contact the Capital Area Intermediate Unit
